The Inter-American Investment Corporation was established in 1984 as the private sector arm of the Inter-American Development Bank Group. In 2017, it was rebranded as the "I.D.B. Invest." Governed by 45 member countries, including 26 countries from Latin American and the Caribbean, I.D.B. Invest finances private sector companies that operate in the region's developing countries. In 2013, I.D.B. Invest adopted a general policy addressing environmental and social issues, including indigenous peoples, and in 2019 it adopted the Access to Information Policy. In 2019, the I.D.B. Invest decided to review its general environmental and social policy and to develop a new policy framework. The Independent Consultation and Investigation Mechanism can process complaints about I.D.B. Invest-funded projects potentially affecting indigenous communities and the environment.
